VNG Data Center has been renamed STT VNG Ho Chi Minh City 1
Singapore’s ST Telemedia Global Data Centres has formed a joint venture with Vietnamese tech unicorn VNG Corporation for the development, construction and operation of server-hosting facilities totalling nearly 70 megawatts in Ho Chi Minh City.
The partnership encompasses a functioning 9.6MW data centre in Vietnam’s largest city and a second 60MW facility set to be operational in the first half of 2026, the companies said Wednesday in a release.
The deal gives STT GDC a presence in its eighth market in Asia Pacific and 11th globally, following its entry into Malaysia announced last November. The Temasek Holdings-controlled firm’s Southeast Asia CEO, Lionel Yeo, said VNG will provide local knowledge, carrier neutrality and an extensive customer and partner network in the fast-growing Vietnam market.
“Together, we bring a unique blend of global and local expertise to deliver a new international standard of data centre solutions, supporting Vietnam’s digital transformation journey,” Yeo said.
Pair to Link Up
The two data centres are to be situated within 1.5 kilometres (0.9 miles) of each other at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Thuan industrial cluster in a bend of the Saigon River.

STT VNG Ho Chi Minh City 1 (formerly VNG Data Center) boasts a Tier 3 rating, meeting requirements for redundant and dual-powered servers, network links and other components. Its design aims to meet the global standards of financial institutions, internet exchange operators, network service providers, content deliverers and other enterprise segments.
Customers of STT VNG Ho Chi Minh City 1 will be able to establish a direct peering connection to VNGGames and VNG Cloud, two of the key services of VNG, which employs more than 3,600 staff across 10 cities worldwide and last year postponed a planned NASDAQ IPO.
STT VNG Ho Chi Minh City 2 will connect to the existing data centre via network infrastructure to ease connectivity and expansion. The facility promises access to nearby substations, critical telecom networks, transport links, and logistics, business and industry hubs, as well as other provinces via the HCMC Outer Zone Expressway.
“We believe our partnership with STT GDC, a globally recognised leader in data centre operations, will set new service standards worldwide for Vietnam’s data centre industry as well as introduce our products and services to international markets,” said VNG founder and CEO Le Hong Minh.
Global Growth Strategy
Beyond its home market of Singapore and neighbouring Malaysia, STT GDC operates in Thailand and the Philippines, where it is developing a 124MW campus in Metro Manila through a JV with local conglomerate Ayala Corp and its telecom unit Globe, as well as in Indonesia with a 72MW campus in West Java.
Beyond Southeast Asia, the company has presences in India, South Korea, Japan, Germany and Britain. STT GDC is also the single largest shareholder in Chinese data centre giant GDS.
In January, STT GDC sold S$450 million ($338 million) in sustainability-linked perpetual securities under the Temasek-backed firm’s S$1.5 billion multi-currency debt issuance programme. Some of the borrowing is to fund acquisitions as part of the platform’s global expansion strategy.
