It’s been nearly a week since our last installment here on Mingtiandi, but there are some good reasons for this. We’ve been especially busy trying to take care of all of the last minute details before Mike’s big trip to America. And here are our proud accomplishments of the week:
- Hired a marketing manager
- Found an office
- Reached 1000 industrial zones in the database
- Bought Beijing Olympic 2008 t-shirts for all my nieces and nephews
It’s hard to decide which of these accomplishments is the biggest milestone in our company’s development, but luckily, my siblings kids were able to tell me that picking up the t-shirts was the really important event of the week. Anyway, here’s a bit more detail about the other events of the week.
Marketing Manager — Vena Dai will join us on a temporary basis just as soon as I’m back from the US, and will play a central role in creating the Chinese version of the site. Vena has a background in PR, and formerly worked with Savills, so her knowledge of the property industry should be crucial to creating a site which serves the needs of property buyers and owners.
The New Office — well, perhaps I’m jumping the gun to say we have found our space, but we will be making an offer on a space on Suzhou Creek tomorrow. The office is more than 285 square metres, and has a great view of downtown. (Plus, it’s really cheap). Will let you know how it goes.
A Thousand Industrial Zones — Once again, I’m getting ahead of myself, but by the end of the day on Friday we should have surpassed 1000 industrial zones in our database. Once the site is launched, this list of industrial zones will be a key attraction for users. Next, our team will be building a list of 1000 industrial property agents.
Beijing Olympic T-Shirts — If you don’t know how important these are, then it’s too long since you were nine years old!
For developing the site, we are still doing phone calls to India, but only have two sessions this week. (The first was on Tuesday, and the second will be on Friday). We are primarily discussing design of some of the interior level pages, while the development team starts stitching together the Drupal modules that we will be using for building RightSite.
Now that I have taken care of all of this, I can relax some during my jaunt back home. I will be in the US from the 7th to the 17th — a quick trip back home to Minnesota for my brother’s wedding. Plus, I’ll be doing the usual maintenance visit type activities — buying shoes, visiting old friends, buying socks. Will be sure to keep you up to date on all our adventures at the Mall of America. In the meantime, Winni the WonderAssistant will be in charge of operations here at the RightSite headquarters.
Also, on the schedule for next week.
- Sign office lease
- Continue work on site layout design
- Begin technical documentation
That should keep me busy in between the backyard barbecues and the wedding buffets! Hope your week has been a happy one and see you next time here on Mingtiandi!

Is commenting on my own blog kosher? Just wanted to give you all an update on the office situation. In typical snafu tradition, when I attempted to make an offer on the target property today the agent informed me that the landlord had decided to raise the rent by 21%.
Back to the drawing board!!
